And so we find ourselves in autumn, the season of the metal element. The metal element Is related to the functions of the lung whose job it is to inspire oxygen into the body.
Metal is also related to the function of the large intestine whose job it is to release the body’s waste, that which we no longer need. Right now marks the perfect time to tap in to this energy.
Metal Element and Your Creativity
If we look even deeper, the energy of the metal element supports us to fully allow what we need and desire to come in and to receive it.
On one level we look to the metal element to breathe in or inspire creative ideas.
On another level we look to metal to help us stand in our deserving, to set aside time and receive the thing that so many of you deeply crave — creative expression, creative flow.
Metal Element and Letting Go
At the same time we are invited into the process of letting go.
This looks like letting go of stories, like:
- I’m not good enough.
- This is just a hobby.
- This doesn’t generate income, so it doesn’t really deserve time away from [INSERT OBLIGATION HERE] (children, partner, work…).
This time during the metal element also looks like letting go of habits that get in the way of making our dreams come true.
Overworking so that you don’t have any time left for yourself at the end of the day, or staying up late watching television and drinking a little too much so you aren’t motivated get up in the morning and meet the sacred commitment to your art.
The Autumn Equinox and the Metal Element
The autumn equinox marks a time of perfect balance between yin (darkness, quiet, cool, order) and yang (brightness, noisy, hot, chaos).
This seasonal, celestial moment creates a perfect opportunity to align with the balanced energy of the sun and moon, night and day, yin and yang.
This is the perfect moment to perform an assessment and re-organization of our lives to bring in a greater balance between work and play, self and other.
If you have been more outwardly focused, more summer fun focused, more pillar of strength for the family focused, now is the time to reconcile this balance.
Connecting with The Ancestors
Halloween, Samhain, All Saints Day, Dia De Los Muertos, these are holidays at the end of October where we connect to the spirits and honor those who have passed.
This is also a time to fully let go of those habits and stories, to witness their death and honor them for the lessons they have brought you.
It is also an opportunity to connect to your ancestors, especially one who was a creative role model. Ask them to support you in the full release of that codependent habit, the insidious story of not being good enough, or just being confused about how to make it happen.
